Calcium gluconate is the calcium salt of gluconic acid, widely used in pharmaceutical, food, and industrial applications due to its high bioavailability and non-toxic nature. It is a mild and well-tolerated calcium source, making it suitable for oral, injectable, and topical formulations.

  • Pharmaceutical & Medical Uses
      • Calcium Supplement: Used to treat calcium deficiency (hypercalcemia) in patients with osteoporosis, rickets, or hypoparathyroidism. Found in oral tablets, syrups, and effervescent powders.
      • Intravenous (IV) Therapy: Used in hospitals to treat acute hypercalcemia, hyperkalaemia (excess potassium), and magnesium sulphate overdose. Administered as a 10% IV solution for immediate calcium replenishment.
      • Treatment for Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Burns: Topical calcium gluconate gel is used in industries handling HF acid to neutralize fluoride ions and prevent deep tissue damage.
      • Cardioprotective Agent: Helps stabilize heart function in patients with hyperkalaemia (high potassium levels) by reducing the risk of cardiac arrhythmias.
